Welcome to the National Implementing Entity (NIE)
SANBI was accredited by the Adaptation Fund as South Africa's NIE to the Adaptation Fund in 2011. At that time, South Africa was provided with an investment cap of US$10 m.
Since 2011, the NIE has invested in governance and stakeholder engagement processes that have resulted in the development of an Investment Framework for the NIE, and the development of two detailed project proposals that were submitted to the Adaptation Fund in mid-2014.
Both of these NIE projects were approved by the Adaptation Fund Board in October 2014, and over the next five years, they will be implemented by the NIE and its execution partners.
The main aim of the NIE is to deliver tangible results through the implementation of projects that address climate change adaptation in vulnerable communities in South Africa. Through this, the NIE will make the case for further investments in climate change adaptation.
