During Easter this year once again Oyama Bonsai Kai will be proudly displaying our members' bonsai trees at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. The Oyama Bonsai Kai Easter Show has become a highlight of the local bonsai calendar and is eagerly anticipated by the local bonsai community. One of the unique features of the shows is the center piece display which changes every year to bring variety and a different flavor to the way the trees are showed. There are daily demonstrations and workshops as well as a very comprehensive educational display area and this year we have included a section on how to be water wise while growing Bonsai.  A well-stocked sales area with trees, pots and tools will also be available to provide excellent choices of material for both beginner and advanced growers.

Experienced growers, and novices young and old are always inspired by the beautiful trees and the friendly advice shared by the club's members.  Oyama is known as a club that goes the extra mile with regard to giving assistance to all, from beginners to experienced members alike.  It is as much a family as a club and members will often speak about the quality of the monthly talks and demonstrations at our Plumstead club home, with speakers going to great lengths to put together excellent and often thought provoking material.   We run a great beginners course and workshops which are taught by our more experienced growers whose enthusiasm clearly shows.

Oyama Bonsai Kai is actively involved in promoting bonsai as part of Cape Town’s culture with active involvement in many local functions.  Amongst these the National New Talent Competition to encourage new bonsai designers to come to the fore, our yearly Winter Bash where local talent is displayed with exciting talks and demonstrations of outstanding world class caliber and active involvement in Cape Town’s Bonsai Festival celebrations in partnership with the City of Cape Town. We are a very active club always looking for new members and new ways to bring bonsai to its members and to share our love of bonsai with the Cape Town community.  If you are interested in joining us, or just taking in these fantastic little trees, pop in at the Richards Crowie Hall at Kirstenbosch for the show from the 30th of March to the 2nd of April. We look forward to seeing you there!
