The Western Cape Woodturners  Association (WCWA) will once again be demonstrating their skills and artistry over the Easter weekend at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.  A number of pieces turned during the demonstrations will be available for visitors to take home, in exchange for a donation to a good cause.

In addition, there will be an exhibition of artistic woodturnings at the Old Mutual Conference Centre at Kirstenbosch.  South African Woodturners will be displaying a wide range of their work while the demonstrations are in progress.  Visitors can look forward to seeing a surprising range of forms including the classic “urn” shapes, hollow forms, closed vessels, and a variety of shapes and sizes of bowls, platters and natural edged bowls, as well wonderful gift items like pens.  Some of the pieces incorporate media other than wood; including inlays of pewter, resins, precious metals and other natural materials.

Internationally, woodturning (wood-art) is an emerging art form and South Africa has a number of talented turners who have participated and exhibited at international woodturning symposia in the USA, Australia and the United Kingdom.  This collection of unique turned items showcase the skill, craftsmanship and high quality finish of this creative art form, which is growing in popularity.

Selected exhibition items will also be for sale.
