Free State NBG: Capacity Development

Capacity DevelopmentThis forms part of the Human Capital Development programme at the Garden.

Teacher Professional Development Workshops linked to Biodiversity Careers

This programme is focused on offering educators, educators-in-training and education officials workshops on biodiversity careers.

Educators are informed about four streams (Science, Business, Arts and Social Sciences) which are linked to biodiversity careers and the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements. Free State NBG works closely with the Department of Education Programme co-ordinators in arranging these workshops for teachers and subject advisors.

Assistant Education Officers

School leavers are trained to become Assistant Education Officers in the education centre to facilitate environmental programmes for schools. There is a high demand for Assistant Education Officers when large school groups visit the garden for lessons. These trainees are hired on an ad-hoc basis and only work when there are school bookings.

Training workshops take place around October and February starting at midday.
