Assistant Director: Administration and Support (Permanent position)

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires an enthusiastic, dedicated, professional and responsible person to plan, organize and manage human and financial resources in order to provide efficient Facilities Management and Support services to ensure uninterrupted business continuity and comfortable working environment. 


The successful candidate must be in a possession of a relevant NQF level 6 qualification, with Building Sciences being an added advantage, enhanced by 5 years’ relevant experience, of which three years must be at supervisory level. The incumbent must have knowledge of the Public service environment and understanding of Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and National Treasury Regulations. Must have relevant experience in immovable asset management, maintenance of buildings and be able to demonstrate applied Project Management skills. Furthermore, it is essential that the suitable candidate must be in possession of a valid unendorsed Code B driver’s licence and proficient in MS Office, PowerPoint, Access and Excel.

Key responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible for:

  • Manage the upkeep of administration and commercial buildings in the Pretoria National Garden campus 
  • Management of fleet, messengers, registry, reception, switchboard and cleaning services
  • Management of maintenance budget and procurement processes  
  • Manage health and safety aspects related to buildings
  • Management of staff and contracts related to building maintenance


SANBI offers a salary of R334 545.00 per annum and additional fringe benefits, which include attractive medical and pension schemes.
