SANBI is seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual to lead project pipeline development for SANBI’s Climate Funds Unit on contract for a period of 3 years as GCF Project and Proposal Developer.


The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual to lead project pipeline development for SANBI’s Climate Funds Unit including funding framework and strategy development, research the design and implementation of project development processes, the procurement and management of consultants and specialists and the compilation of funding proposals.


This appointment requires the candidate to be proficient in the field of Climate Change Adaptation, in possession of a post-graduate degree in development studies/environmental management/public administration/communication or equivalent, and enhanced by at least 5 years’ relevant working experience. Proven expertise in compiling the technical and financial international funding proposals is essential.

The incumbent must also have experience in engaging with government and non-government stakeholders, track record building and managing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Experience in managing consultants, experience with supply chain and financial management processes in the public sector would be an added advantage,

The successful candidate should have excellent spoken and written command of English, good organisational, coordination, interpersonal and teamwork skills, experience with MS Office and an ability to work well with stakeholders.   Possession of a valid Code EB driver's license with at least one year's driving experience is compulsory.  This position also requires a candidate to be willing to travel nationally.

Key responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible for:

  • Provide strategic leadership for SANBI’s GCF projects pipeline process;
  • Lead the operationalisation of SANBI’s GCF programme of work;
  • Prepare concept notes and funding proposals for submission to the GCF;
  • Procure and manage consultants and specialists as required.


SANBI offers an all-inclusive annual salary package of R779 295.00.
