The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires the services of hardworking and self-motivated individual to render support on maintenance and development of the garden’s hard landscaping elements.


The successful candidate is required to display sound interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate in English (read and write) and any other official language as well as have 2 years’ relevant gardening experience. The successful candidate must be able to have basic knowledge of invasive plants, indigenous plants, gardening and landscaping. The ideal candidate must be physically fit and able to work independently as well as in a team. The candidate must be able to perform weekend duties on a rotational basis and willing to participate on field collection trips.

Key responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible for:


  • Construction related work
  • Maintenance of equipment 
  • Removal of weeds and alien invasive plants
  • Maintenance of Perimeter Fence
  • Maintenance of Pathways and trails
  • Act in a professional and responsible manner towards customers (including supervisors, team members or visitors)
  • Identify possible risks (Fire, theft, pollution, invasive weeds, security problems and dangerous animals) to the Garden.
  • Comply with basic Occupational Health & Safety regulations.



SANBI offers a salary of R90 234 per annum and additional fringe benefits, which include attractive medical and pension schemes.
