Rural Citizen Scientist Birding Project

SANBI requires 15 highly motivated individuals with a passion for nature conservation and birds to contribute to SANBI’s project on recording birds in rural areas of Sekhukhune and Mopani district. We are looking for volunteers living in the following areas:

  • Sekhukhune district, Burgersfort area (5 volunteers)
  • Mopani district, Modjadjiskloof area (5 volunteers)
  • Mopani district, Giyani area (5 volunteers)  

 We are looking for volunteers with at least a Grade 12. Volunteers should be able to use mobile applications (Apps), speak and write in English, and capture information accurately. An NQF level 2 qualification in Nature Conservation will be an added advantage.

Volunteers will be expected to:

  • Attend training workshops
  • Spend one day a week in the field recording birds, using methods learned in the training

SANBI will provide a small subsistence allowance of R717.76 per month, for the duration of the contract (one year). For enquiries, please contact T. Khoza on T.Khoza@sanbi.org.za
