BGIS Training at UCT in February 2017

The BGIS website (http://bgis.sanbi.org) offers free and comprehensive spatial biodiversity datasets and tools to support evidence based decision-making, biodiversity and conservation related research, policy formulation and biodiversity monitoring.

mediumSANBI offers two free one-day training workshop to BGIS users at the University of Cape Town (UCT). The training workshop information is as follows:

Date

Tuesday, 7 or Wednesday, 8 February  2017 (same content each day)

Time

9:00am – 4:00pm

Venue

UCT, Environmental and Geographical Science Department, Computer Room. Please note that attendees will NOT be required to bring along a laptop.

Costs

There are no costs associated with the training. Attendees will need to bring along their own lunch.

 
Please note that this training is NOT an introduction to GIS and it is expected that participants have a basic working knowledge of GIS concepts and application. 
 
The training workshop will focus on practical applications of the BGIS website including:
·         Locating and downloading biodiversity-related spatial datasets.
·         Accessing the new interactive mapping service.
·         Using the Land-Use Decision Support (LUDS) tool.
 
Please note that the number of participants will be restricted to 25.
Participants will be selected on a first come, first served basis.
