The first Eastern Cape Invasive Species Forum meeting was held on the 18th of October 2017  in East London. Initiated by the South African National Biodiversity Institute’s Directorate on Biological Invasions ( DBI),  the forum was launched to develop a communication and advisory platform for all stakeholders involved with invasive species management, research and regulation.

The first meeting was a great success and was attended by over 60 delegates from various institutions (universities, government department, municipalities and private sector). The meeting was also attended by the Director of SANBI DBI Sebataolo Rahlao and Mpho Mabala representing the National Department of Environmental affairs (Biosecurity).

The aim of this forum is to ensure that the invasive species problem is adequately addressed and to facilitate co-operation and collaboration between responsible government departments and other relevant stakeholders in the province.

Forum members nominated seven committee members who are working together to develop terms of reference for this forum.
